Medical Skincare in Skippack, PA
Medical skincare is skin work chosen and performed in a medical setting, using medical-grade products and devices rather than the shelf-strength versions. A relaxation facial is designed to feel good; medical-grade skin treatments are designed to change how your skin looks and behaves — lifting away dulled surface layers, resurfacing tone and pigment, or prompting your own collagen to rebuild texture from underneath. Our sister day spa, The Body Serene, handles relaxation facials, massage, and salon services. ILM is the medical-grade step up, and every skin service here is performed by our credentialed medical-aesthetics team.
That team sits inside the Institute for Laser Medicine — the Skippack training school where professionals across the region earn their credentials. It means your skin is assessed by people who teach this work rather than sold a menu item, and it is the reason the first step is always looking at your skin instead of booking a treatment. The category itself covers dermaplaning (a sterile-blade physical exfoliation that removes dead surface cells and fine peach-fuzz hair), SkinPen microneedling (FDA-cleared collagen induction for texture, fine lines, and acne scarring), the VI Peel (a medical-grade chemical peel for tone, texture, and pigment), and the Vampire Facial® — microneedling with platelet-rich plasma drawn from your own blood.
Which of those you need — and in what order — is decided at a free consultation, because the same concern can point to different treatments depending on your skin, your history, and how much social downtime you can give it. Several of these services also pair well with each other, and most build best as a short series rather than a single visit. Results vary from person to person. We also carry medical-grade skincare in-practice, including (plated) Skin Science, Ourself, Epicutis, and SkinBetter Science, matched to your skin at your visit so what you do at home supports what we do in office.
Medical Skincare at ILM is led by Jennifer Gibson, LE — Lead Medical Aesthetician.

What to expect
A skin assessment and consultation: We look at your skin, talk through what is bothering you, and review your history before anything is scheduled. That conversation decides which service fits — and occasionally that the honest answer is to wait or start somewhere else, as with active, inflamed breakouts. Consultations are free, and you know the plan and the cost before we begin.
A comfortable, in-and-out appointment: Most skin visits here are short: a dermaplaning session or a peel application generally runs about half an hour, while microneedling with PRP takes closer to an hour once the blood draw and numbing time are included. Comfort measures are matched to the service — numbing before microneedling, nothing needed for dermaplaning — and your provider walks you through the steps and the aftercare before starting.
A short series, then maintenance and home care: Because collagen builds gradually and the skin renews in cycles, treatments like microneedling and peels typically work best as a short series spaced a few weeks apart, with maintenance after. Sun protection and the right medical-grade products at home are part of the plan, not an upsell — they protect the fresher skin you paid for. Results vary from person to person.
Questions, answered
Which skin treatment is right for my concern?
Broadly: dermaplaning for immediate smoothness, brightness, and easier makeup application; the VI Peel for dullness, sun damage, and uneven pigment; SkinPen microneedling for texture, fine lines, and acne scarring; and the Vampire Facial® — microneedling with PRP — when you want your own platelets added to that collagen response. Because several of these overlap and some pair well together, the match is made at your free consultation rather than off a menu.
How is this different from a facial at a spa?
A relaxation facial is meant to feel good and treat the surface. Medical skincare uses medical-grade peels, devices, and products in a medical setting, performed by our credentialed medical-aesthetics team, with your skin history reviewed first. The two are complements, not competitors — our sister day spa, The Body Serene, handles the relaxation side, and patients come to ILM when skin needs the medical-grade step up.
Is there downtime with medical skincare?
It depends on the treatment, which is part of what the consultation sorts out. Dermaplaning has no downtime, which is why it is popular before an event. Microneedling generally leaves redness like a mild sunburn for a day or so, occasionally with slight flaking. The VI Peel is designed for minimal social downtime, with light peeling over the following several days. In every case, sun protection afterward matters.
How much does medical skincare cost in Skippack?
Cost depends on which service you have, whether it is paired with another, and how many sessions your plan calls for — so we review pricing at your free consultation and you always know it beforehand. We do not publish flat prices because every plan is different. CareCredit and Cherry financing are available for larger series, and it is worth asking about our current monthly specials.
How often should I have a skin treatment?
Dermaplaning is commonly repeated about every four weeks, in step with the skin’s natural cell cycle. Microneedling and peels are usually spaced a few weeks apart in a short series, then repeated for maintenance as your skin needs it. Your provider recommends a rhythm based on your skin and goals, and results vary from person to person.
